Where Do I Begin?
When it feels like the ground is disappearing beneath you: the best techniques for staying strong and resilient in your toughest moments

First things first: just like in the airplane safety video, put your mask on first - secure it, adjust the straps, and breathe normally.
Once you’ve regained your composure, take a moment to reflect on your Ikigai. This exercise helped me tremendously during my toughest times. By revisiting my skills and knowledge, I was able to rediscover what brings me joy and identify possible paths forward.
This process led me to map out my own re-skilling journey:
Expanding my sales and negotiation skills beyond narrow, product-focused corporate training
Completing AI skills training, which gave me practical consulting frameworks
Most importantly, experimenting hands-on with new tools and resources
I firmly believe in learning by doing. The more you practice, the easier it becomes to adapt and build new habits. I make it a point to try something new every day—whether it’s a different AI assistant, accounting software for my consultancy, or exploring the latest features in LLM updates. This approach drives real behavioral change and helps me fully engage with the evolving tech landscape, rather than just moving from one mandatory training to another. (And honestly, who says the learning and development manager in a big corporation really knows what I need?)
I haven’t figured everything out—far from it. But I want to share my experiences in hopes that they might help someone else stay afloat during uncertain times.
And, find yourself a shtick that helps you slow down. For me it was Mandala Art and Calligraphy - both help focus through breathing and meditation to put a break on the pacing brain. Sometimes this is all you need before the tech kicks in!
